Famous Club Now one of the Varvatos Mens Clothing Stores

The building formerly home to legendary New York music club CBGB will soon be one of many mens clothing stores from designer John Varvatos. The club CBGB closed its doors in October 2006 after 33 years. The Bowery club served as a launching pad for the Ramones, Television, Blondie, Talking Heads, the Patti Smith Group and many other bands that would become synonymous with punk rock and its offshoots.

A stage permanently integrated into the store design and an in-store performance series are among the distinctive plans aimed at honoring the space's history. The club had closed because the founder, Hilly Kristal, died in August at age 75, after a hard battle with lung cancer.
