There was recently a fashion show in Paris to display all of the top designers' Fall 2008 collections. With the world economy, and particularly the American economy, taking a downturn, one common trend amongst designers was mens cheap clothing. Retail sales have been taking a dive, so producing cheaper clothes may be the way to get customers back in the stores.

Most of the designers went with easy-to-wear clothes that managed to be both youthful and elegant, a combination that's been missing from mens clothing of recent seasons. Some of the other main trends included a lot of plaid, military influences, and formalwear touches in everything from ski pants to greatcoats.

New Line Borrows from 1930's and 1940's Mens Clothing

The designer, Rei Kawakubo, recently announced his Fall 2008 line, which included some surprising twists. He decided to showcase an earlier era, drawing much of his influence from 1930's and 1940's mens clothing.

The designer managed to encompass the entire menswear season in an elegant range of tartan-trimmed and punk-influenced pieces. Jackets were the highlight of the show, as they included plaid accents and were also patched with punk-lettered slogans. Not every designer can make a silk top hat and sloganeering displayed on the clothing work on the same runway, much less the same outfit. But somehow Kawakubo managed to do just that.

Mens Urban Clothing Apparel a Target for Discrimination

In the state of Iowa, some nightclubs have been found discriminating against blacks by not allowing people wearing certain brands of clothing to come to their establishments.

Representative Wayne Ford, a Democrat, has proposed a bill that would prohibit businesses from discriminating based on the brand of clothing people are wearing. He said that it is most applicable to the hip-hop generation wearing young mens urban clothing apparel.

The House Human Resources Committee approved the bill on Wednesday. The bill states that it is a discriminatory practice for any business that charges a fee for services, facilities or goods to discriminate based on the brand of a person's apparel.

Isaac Nesser knows something about mens big and tall clothing. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest chest at 74 and 1/4 inches and the largest bicep at 29 inches. So it made sense when he opened a clothing store for big and tall men in 2005 in Somerset, PA.

Recently, some vandals attacked his store, breaking out the glass front door, stealing from the register and spraying paint all over his inventory. The vandals caused about $150,000 worth of damage, and insurance covered only thirty percent. After the initial disappointment, Nesser realized he could do some good with the damaged inventory. So he decided to donate all of the merchandise to needy families in the area.

Mens Dress Clothing Store Thrives Despite the Economy

The current state of the American economy is not good. The housing market and credit problems have spread and even the retail sector is now feeling the pain. We are said to be entering a recessionary period. However, JoS A. Bank Clothiers, an operator of 415 mens dress clothing stores located in 42 states, is one of a select few retailers that seems un-phased by this economic downturn. They reported a twenty seven percent increase in earnings for third quarter 2007.

The store also says that it still plans to go ahead with its extensive expansion plans. They are planning on having at least six hundred stores by the end of 2012. While major markets such as Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles are pinpointed, JoS says that it will also focus on growing more in warm weather states like California, Arizona, and Texas.
