Men's Clothing 365 - Scott Barber

From Men's Clothing 365, beginning in the 1990s, Scott Barber posed the question: " What will men wear in a casual work environment?"

Previous to designing his first sport shirt, Barber entered the apparel industry as a West Coast rep for a suit company.

"I was a terrible salesman," he said. "My attraction to the apparel business was the product and the people."

Influenced by the iconic 1940's movie stars, Barber's sport shirts are produced in a dress shirt factory to obtain that quality.

"I want to be in a spot where if you buy something that costs less than ours, it's not as nice," Barber said.

"If a shirt is a BMW, the sweater is a BMW," he said. "We don't mix a Rolls-Royce with a Kia."
"I've created a brand," he said. "I decided what I am going to be and stick with it. I'm sure some people think I'm stubborn, but I think it's one of my best qualities."

Barber appreciates NYC, but not certain parts of the fashion industry.

"I'm not really interested in what Men's Vogue has to say is in this season," he said. "My demographic of customers doesn't read Men's Vogue or GQ, either."
